What is the GSD Education Foundation?

Raising Funds to Raise the Bar!”

Gooding School District Education Foundation, Inc. (GSDEFI) is a non-profit organization that operates independently of the Gooding School District to pursue and distribute funds from private sources for enhancing academics at Gooding School District schools.  The Foundation helps to provide our community’s children with the tools necessary to learn more effectively and to broaden their educational - and ultimately their life - experiences.

GSDEFI endeavors to support and enrich the school system and its programs – not replacing current funding for the school district, but supplementing it through private donations.  The Foundation offers support in five broad areas:  scholastic enrichment, arts in education, technology, youth leadership development, and multicultural awareness. GSDEFI directly helps Gooding students by providing private funds for innovative and creative programs that the school district budget cannot cover, and indirectly boosts the quality of Gooding as a community.

Mission:

“Pursuing excellence in education through the development and distribution of private resources to benefit and further enrich students of the Gooding School District.”

Goal:    To partner with the community in establishing a resource of financial support and professional involvement to amplify the eventual successes of Gooding’s students.

Purpose:  To enrich the education experience for students in the Gooding School District by engaging the community in participation and support.

Focus:     The focus of the foundation for the 2009 – 2010 school year is on obtaining and directing funds toward programs promoting responsible citizenship in Gooding’s students.

Dear Parents/Guardians & Community Members;

January is a good time for us to reflect on the many successes we have already had and reaffirm our direction for this school year.  In spite of the difficult economic times, we are thriving as a district.  Our students are learning, they are safe and cared for, we are financially healthy, numerous facilities projects have been completed or are underway, we are effectively using 21st century technology not only as an instructional tool but also for governance, our communication efforts have been greatly enhanced, and we enjoy unparalleled support from our parents and our community.  We indeed have much to be thankful for.

I am continuing to work with stakeholders to further define our Strategic Plan for the next five years.  We need every one in the community – parents, patrons, staff members - to refocus and help us sharpen our vision for the future of Gooding School District. We have held dozens of  meetings over the last year and have developed plans in several areas, but we are still working on defining our preferred future.  This is hard work, especially in hard times.  As the landscape for public education  is undergoing rapid changes, it requires commitment , understanding, reflection and dedication by all just to enter the conversation. Nevertheless, we are committed to this important work for our district and hope you’ll join us.

Every day, extra ordinary events and stories like those  mentioned in this newsletter occur at all our schools.  They are all a testimony to the incredible work being done with students in Gooding School District.  We invite you to share the good news with your friends and neighbors, and we invite you to stop in and witness first hand our educational programs.

Wishing you and your family a Happy New Year and a productive spring!
