Senior Project Fair

It is Senior Project time once again. Students have been working feverishly to apply the finishing touches to their projects which were presented orally this week. The culmination of their work over the last 2 trimesters is the Senior Project Fair, which will be held in the Gooding High School Gymnasium from 10:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M., Thursday, February 21, 2013.  The public is invited to attend during that time and inspect the many wonderful projects.  Senior students will be on hand to discuss and explain their projects.   The fair will be closed for a lunch break from 12:30 to 1:00.

Cell Rap - sody

The Cell Rap has become a rite of passage for sophomore biology students at Gooding High School.  Students add some creative flair to their learning, by turning cell parts and functions into a song or rap.  Learning about the cell can be somewhat boring, but students at Gooding High School have made it “cool.”  Alex Saucedo, and Uriel and Fidel Bautista are just three of the many students who took a few common organelles and their functions and made a catchy little tune.  Look for their video coming soon (hopefully) to our website. This project has let GHS students show off some hidden talents!

Important Levy Information!

Important things to know about the 2 Year Supplemental Levy

  • When – March 12th 2013
  • Where – Your normal district precinct polling places or by absentee ballot prior to March 12th. For more information visit http://goodingcounty.org/Election.html.
  • What – 2 year $510,000 Supplemental Levy
  • Why do we need a replacement of the current supplemental levyThe current levy expires at

the end of the current fiscal year. This levy replaces the current one, it does NOT add to it.

  • Items dependent on the levy:
  1. oExtracurricular Activities – The first thing on the chopping block would be sports and other extra activities. These include sports such as: Football, Volleyball, Soccer, Basketball, Tennis, Track, Cross Country, Bowling, Wrestling, etc. Also, extras such as: Music, drama, BPA, FFA, Reading Club, etc.
  2. oTechnology upgrades – To keep up with an ever changing educational landscape our district has worked to keep technology up to date. The levy will continue to improve areas of need such as: computers accessible to educators and students, wireless internet capable of performing at the needs of our students, maintenance and upgrades to current products, just to name a few.
  3. oGeneral costs such as utilities.
  • Gooding School District has one of the lowest “per pupil expense” rates in the state, meaning, the amount of money we spend on average per student is already near the bottom of the state. The state average is $5,950 per student, Gooding sits 138th among districts in Idaho at $4,867 per student! Districts in our area surpass us as well, examples are: Blaine School district - $15,873 per, Glenns Ferry School District - $7,147 per, Wendell School District - $5,320 per, and Buhl - $5,268 per.
  • Even with the $325,000 levy in place now we are dipping into our reserves another $250,000 this year alone!
