Teen Read Week is an initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association of the American Library Association. The week is aimed at encouraging teens to read for pleasure. This year the theme was “Picture It @ Your Library.”
We created READ posters. Since we received over $250 worth of READ Software from the Idaho Commission for Libraries, we were prompted to create celebrity posters using GHS students. To select those students, we created a contest where students were asked to promote a book by writing an essay. Essays were judged and the winners were Andrea Bigler, Elvia Carranza, JoAnna Jensen and Taylor Rees. Pictures of each winner with their book were enlarged to make posters. Each poster will be on the web for state-wide voting in November. In addition to the poster, each winner will receive a book and a Teen Read Week wrist band jump drive.
Reading Club also hosted a Read-In during lunch on Wednesday. Taylor Rees and Cassie Acha won the most points at the Trivia Contest held on Monday night.
